Job Title: Food Safety & Quality Assurance Manager                     

Reports to: Director of Food Safety & Quality

 

Job Summary:

Responsible for the overall implementation, verification, and validation of the Food Safety and Quality programs for any OINA. The Ornua Ingredients North America (OINA) FSQA Manager will manage and maintain the certification of an individual or multiple facilities under BRC verification of the FSMA regulations, ensuring all OINA products are compliant with all Safety and Quality standards, including the Preventive Controls program, HACCP program, PRP’s, and all customer requirements, both foreign and domestic. By working cooperatively and cross-functionally with Managers, Supervisors, Line Leads, and the Quality & Food Safety Team, this position will identify, investigate, and solve Quality and compliance issues.

       

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage OINA FSQA Systems reviews to ensure compliance with BRC, HACCP, GMPs, company policies and procedures, and all pertinent regulatory standards, as assigned by Director of Quality & Food Safety
  • Work cooperatively and cross-functionally with staff from other departments to resolve compliance issues
  • Coordinate and lead teams in all scheduled audits
  • Coordinate the OINA response to any request for any FSQA related documents from regulatory officials, customers, consumers, and internal customers
  • Support other FSQA Managers with various projects, as needed
  • Support the development QA/QC team members, through coaching and training in procedure, protocol, and policy.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify potential improvements in FSQA systems and work cross functionally and with FSQA Director to build alignment and implement.
  • Manage the laboratory testing and data reporting to effectively investigate, implement, and monitor processes, methods, and the environment within assigned location(s).
  • Verify the production/process FSQA data for product and packaging specifications and sanitation effectiveness
  • Manage the RCA process, including the effective identification and implementation of CAPA within assigned location(s).
  • Manage the implementation and overview of all PC documentation within assigned location(s).
  • Provide timely, accurate, and professional reports of the monitoring results to other departments
  • Cross-Train with team members in other departments as deemed necessary by the Dir. Of Quality & Food Safety
  • Inform upper management of any food safety, production-to-spec, and/or significant non-conformances issue and take action to maintain the integrity and efficacy of the Food Safety and Food Defense programs
  • Manage FSQA and Laboratory staffing and execution of all programs within assigned location(s)
  • Professionally manage and execute any / all other tasks per the request of the Director of Quality Assurance & Food Safety

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), Sanitation, and Production
  • Must be willing and able to taste dairy and non-dairy food products.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and ability to travel 20-40% of the time.
  • Strong oral, listening, written and electronic communication skills in order to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations, and to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
  • Calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, averages, density, area, circumference, and volume with accuracy and ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Effectively multi-task with delegation in order to effectively manage challenges involving several variables in standardized situations.
  • Critically analyze processes and procedures to identify and assess potential food safety hazards and quality defects.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Veterinary, or related field.
  • 8+ years experience in a food manufacturing environment or experience in a technical support area such as Food Safety & Quality, and Product Development Prefer, 5 years minimum experience in FSQA Supervisor in the food or related industry.
  • Prior management of Sanitation services and/or laboratory services
  • Experience with FDA, USDA and Dairy
  • Preferred Qualifications include: PCQI registration, HACCP certification, direct Audit Leadership experience and Lean Six sigma and/or Project management experience.
