Maintenance Supervisor

 

Role Overview:

The Maintenance Supervisor keeps the Ornua Ingredients plant and equipment in sound and safe working order using sanitary design concepts, standards and materials. Working environments are maintained as such that high quality, food safe product is consistently produced in a safe working environment for our employees. The individual is in charge of scheduling and performing preventative maintenance on a regular basis, as well as, performing maintenance and repairs as needed on the facility and equipment. The individual is also in charge of ordering needed maintenance supplies as well as maintaining an inventory of critical parts and components for the facility and production equipment.

 

Reports to: Operations Manager

Direct Reports: Maintenance Personnel

 

Principal Duties as Maintenance Supervisor

  1. Perform Preventative Maintenance on plant facilities and equipment on a scheduled basis
  2. Maintain and oversees preventative maintenance schedule for all equipment and facility
  3. Responsible for hiring and training new maintenance associates
    1. Includes Departmental SOPs, department safety practices and use of appropriate PPE
  4. Work with Quality Manager to conduct maintenance duties according to Ornua Food Safety Standards
  5. Perform maintenance on plant facility and equipment as needed, ensuring repairs are made in a safe and sanitary manner
  6. Maintain an inventory of critical parts and components for the facility and production equipment
  7. Keeps maintenance supplies, equipment and repairs documentation files complete and updated
  8. Audit Maintenance Standard Operating Procedures and Job Hazard Analyses annually
  9. Track absenteeism, time-keeping, and safety violations

 

Participates in the Risk Management Program as appropriate:

  1. Perform or assign maintenance staff to perform pre-op and/or equipment inspections
  2. Perform or assign staff to complete monthly inspections on Emergency Lights and Back-up lights
  3. Obtain permits for Hot Work, Work-at-Height, and Confined Space before performing any applicable activities
  4. Conduct or assign staff to complete internal and external security inspections daily.
  5. Attend monthly facility Safety training and Management Safety Meetings
  6. Conduct or oversee appropriate Risk Assessments for the Maintenance department, including equipment.  Review completed Risk Assessments as changes occur
  7. Completes equipment risk assessments prior to new equipment being brought on site
  8. Assist with appropriate Accident/Incident Investigations and Right-to-Refuse Investigations
  9. Conduct a monthly Safety Inspection
  10. Investigate continual improvement opportunities based on employee suggestions and relevant legislation
  11. Serve on the Change Advisory Board

 

Employee Development:

  1. Oversee departmental training for all Maintenance employees
  2. Document Maintenance employee training and maintains training records
  3. Conducts semi-annual employee reviews; reviews department JSAs with Maintenance employees
  4. Research and/or initiate continual education training for Maintenance employees.

 

 

 

 

 

  1. Observe Maintenance employees for adherence to site’s Safety Practices
  2. Provide effective performance feedback through employee recognition, rewards, and disciplinary action, with the assistance of Human Resources, when necessary
  3. Ensure effective employee relations. Provide employee coaching and development. Make employment decisions. Resolve employee issues through problem resolution

 

Personal Development

  1. Stay abreast with current thought in food safety and quality assurance, equipment design, OSHA regulations and other appropriate legislation through seminars, webinars, and outside reading
  2. Attend appropriate external and/or continual education training (with approval from Operations Manager)
  3. Review Job Description annually

 

Qualifications:

  1. High school education or higher
  2. Engineering knowledge and experience
  3. Knowledge of sanitary design standards as described in 3A, ANSI, ISO, ASQ for welding, equipment materials and construction, facility design and construction.
  4. Ability to manage, train and encourage Maintenance staff.
  5. Complete maintenance projects within a defined budget and under time restraints.
  6. Research skills needed to investigate materials and methods for projects and oversee many disciplines (construction, welding, painting, engineering)
  7. Excellent People skills.
  8. Excellent telephone skills
  9. Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational and written skills.
  10. Ability to multi task effectively.
