The Group is structured across two divisions: Ornua Foods and Ornua Ingredients.


Ornua Foods is responsible for the marketing and sales of Ornua’s consumer brands including Kerrygold, Dubliner, Pilgrims Choice, Forto and BEO. Markets are served by production facilities and in-market sales and marketing teams in Africa, Asia, Germany, Ireland, the UK, the rest of Europe, the Middle East and the US.


Ornua Ingredients is responsible for the procurement of Irish and non-Irish dairy products and for the sale of dairy ingredients to food manufacturing and foodservice customers across the world. Ornua Ingredients is also responsible for managing volatility through de-risking and trading strategies. The business is supported by production facilities in Saudi Arabia, Spain, the UK, the US and by in-market teams in Africa and the Middle East.

Job Summary


The Sustainability specialist position will be a key strategic role in Kerrygold Park. The successful candidate will help drive and coordinate our nature and energy programmes. They will work closely with internal stakeholders (department managers) to support identifying and maximising the site potential opportunities for our sustainability roadmap.

The role will also be the external SPOC SME for the site to attend monthly group forum to communicate and benchmark site roadmap with group initiatives.



Key Areas of Responsibility:


  • Lead and co-ordinate, the execution of the Kerrygold Park’s  environmental sustainability strategy and agenda
  • Compile site sustainability data on time and in full and input to Ornua Sustainability Tool or delegate as appropriate. Report internally and externally where required
  • Take ownership of the site KPI’s and supports the delivery of the KPIs
  • Analyse data/KPIs, communicate exceptions internally to relevant stakeholders
  • Determine if follow up action is required, identify appropriate staff members for involvement and support follow up actions for implementation
  • Recommend and implement site targets in line with Ornua targets
  • Organise and chair an internal Sustainability Steering Committee that will help shape, monitor, and deliver the sustainability strategy
  • Identify ways to better develop and support a sustainability culture at site level
  • Horizon scanning and development of site sustainability plan
  • Interpret, align, and implement group information at site level
  • Communicate and educate the business on sustainability topics.
  • Benchmark the performance of the site against the other Group sites
  • Co-ordinate relevant work streams and maintain a clear map of status and progress
  • Work collaboratively to lead, guide, advise and support operational teams in the identification and effective management of environmental risks and opportunities
  • Develop and facilitate auditing regimes to allow effective monitoring of sustainability performance
  • Monitor trends and industry best practices on sustainability
  • Share experience and best practice across the Group to maximise learning opportunities
  • Act as an adviser and a critical friend to all colleagues, collaborate with colleagues in the Health & Safety and Quality functions to ensure legal compliance and to deliver continual improvement in pursuit of sustainability excellence  


Candidate profile:


The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of environmental sustainability sector with understanding of the requirements of manufacturing facility. You will be a pro-active, analytical self-starter, confident in your decision-making abilities. A dynamic, flexible person, you must be a good communicator with strong inter-personal skills and possess the ability to deal with a fast-paced environment and embrace change. A logical and organised approach to continuous improvement is essential.




Key Requirements & Competencies


  • Experience coordinating a sustainability strategy across a business
  • Keen interest in sustainability beyond traditional CSR programmes
  • Background of at least 2 years in FMCG with experience of the dairy industry however food, beverage, pharma, or other process industries will be considered.
  • Capable of building and maintaining good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills, able to manage and manipulate performance data, utilising it to drive future improvement
  • Ambitious and results driven.
  • Must be a high energy and responsive individual.
  • 3rd level qualification or relevant industry experience.
