Job Title:                    Senior Category Manager - Tesco

Reports to:                Category Controller UK

Location:                    Ornua Foods UK, Leek

Hours:                            Monday to Friday 08.45 to 17.00 (36.25) per week - Dynamic working options are available with this role. 

Salary:                        Up to £55,000 per annum - Dependant on experience + Bonus + Car Allowance

THE ROLE

Starting with the shopper in mind, the primary purpose of the Senior Category Manager role is to drive profitable growth of the cheese category in Tesco and for Ornua. You will work as part of the multifunctional Tesco team, providing category expertise, analysis, and recommendations to both internal and external stakeholders.

 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Driving growth in Tesco

  • To be a powerful partner in the Tesco Commercial Team, be the primary category expert for Tesco stakeholders and collaborate in the development of the Tesco Category Strategy.
  • To identify and share, in an engaging and action orientated way, the latest category trends, the reasons behind market trends and the implications and opportunities for Ornua and Tesco. Identify the size of the prize for various opportunities and assist in tracking performance against those targets.
  • To make recommendations across all the marketing P’s on how Tesco can outperform the rest of the market based on customer and category insight.
  • To be the lead on range reviews from space, flow, assortment, and SKU distribution.
  • Recommendations on price & promotional strategies across the year, modelling to align with Tesco’s strategy.
  • Aligning pack design, pack communication and size to key usage occasions.
  • To support business cases for Tesco opportunities and NPD

 

Ornua Brands within Tesco

  • Support the Brands Team in driving the growth of Pilgrims Choice and Kerrygold within Tesco

 

Category Team and People Development

  • Drive best practice Category Management across the group and contribute to global category expertise development projects
  • Be an Agency Champion - optimizing agency performance and facilitating internal skills development to fully utilize the data/resource available
  • Contributed to the monthly Category ‘Pit Stop’ insights document
  • Manage and develop the Category Executive for Tesco (direct report)

 

This purpose of this role is to provide senior Category support to Tesco, however there may be occasion where there is a need to rotate onto different accounts on either a temporary or permanent basis due to business needs.

 

KEY REQUIREMENTS

To be successful in this role you will be required to be the Tesco category champion for all their cheese category, to act as the category leader & tailor the category vision for Tesco:

 

Essential:

  • Previous experience in a Category role, ideally with 5+ years of FMCG experience
  • Highly numerate
  • Strong analytical skills & proven ability to deliver actionable insight
  • Able to articulate data concepts to a non-expert audience
  • Advanced PowerPoint and Excel skills
  • Advanced use of Kantar, Dunnhumby & IRI or Nielsen
  • Strong presentational skills
  • Commercially aware

 

Desirable:

  • Negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of joint business planning
  • Knowledge of shopper marketing processes
