Hours:                               Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day, core hours - 10am-4pm

Role Description:

 

 

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Engineering Manager to take responsibility for the site-based Engineering function at the Ledbury site. You will be responsible for the effectiveness of our equipment, limiting downtime and maintaining high standards. You will play a key role in the site leadership team and contribute to the delivery of the site strategy.

 

 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

 

 

  • Assume a Key Leadership role in the Site Leadership Team in Ledbury, and with your peers drive overall site improvements in the areas of Engineering & Operational Performance, and Personal and Food Safety Standards.
  • Line management responsibility for Engineering Supervisor, Multi-Skilled Engineers, Apprentices and Engineering Administrator.
  • Responsibility for Health, Safety and Security of the Engineering function.
  • Champion Health and Safety, and Health and Safety best practice at all times.
  • Assist the site leads in reviewing overall performance of the company in terms of Health and Safety. Implementing additional measures were required to improve performance and Health and Safety standards.
  • Ensure that all employees are aware of their general and specific roles, responsibilities and authorities as identified within the company’s Health and Safety management systems. 
  • Be familiar with the broad requirements of Health and Safety legislation which affects the company and its activities.
  • Control and review maintenance systems (including Planned Preventative Maintenance). Manage the overall Engineering service & PPM system, with a passion for improvement in the areas of Preventative maintenance, site building safety, Engineering safety and team development.
  • Ensure that adequate welfare facilities and emergency arrangements are provided, maintained and are communicated to all employees and any persons visiting the sites as required.
  • Drive for continuous improvement of the overall outsource service provision in the areas of RAMS control and management of contract work onsite.
  • Draw up and Implement training plans and skills matrix for the Engineering team which is aligned with both Site strategy and Engineering strategy.
  • Ensure full contractor control procedures are in place and regularly review compliance standards are met.
  • Project manage all Capex projects. Full responsibility for idea generation and implementation.
  • Manage and maintain the CMMS system and ensure department and site activity is collected and reported.
  • Development of Engineering Apprentices and ensuring that they are fully supported in their studies.
  • Continually review and maximise production plant performance in liaison with production and quality management.
  • Own the ASSET Register and review with Finance monthly.
  • Train and motivate the Engineering teams across the sites to generate a high performing culture.
  • Full control of Engineering budget including labour and Capital project spend.
  • Ensure adequate organisation of stores and spare part stock levels.
  • Provide Key Performance tracking and measuring reports.
  • Manage problem resolution and emergency response actions.
  • Negotiate changes to service level agreements.
  • Manage as relevant 3rd party contractor service activities, in accordance with standards laid down by the company’s insurers.
  • Ad-hoc activities/projects as requested by Operations Director.

 

 

Key requirements

 

 

  • Hold a recognised Mechanical / Electrical engineering qualification
  • IOSH or equivalent safety qualification
  • Food Safety Level 3 qualification (training provided)
  • Proven experience in an Engineering / Maintenance Management position.
  • Proven experience within an FMCG environment, preferably within the food industry.
  • Can demonstrate a sound knowledge of modern Engineering practices.
  • Should have demonstrated experience of developing Engineering Systems, Plant and Personnel.
  • Should have demonstrated experience of developing Engineering Teams, Systems and Plant.
  • Strong technical, analytical and communication skills
  • Experience of providing regular direction, motivation, coaching and mentoring to an engineering team.
  • Should be aware of Standard Project management principles and methodologies
  • Experience of managing engineering risk
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines and work under pressure
