Ornua Ingredients North America has an exciting opportunity to join its Research and Development team.  Our Scientists collaborate closely with our customers, suppliers and their Ornua teammates worldwide to identify and implement best practice, to develop and commercialize cutting edge solutions for everyday problems and to participate in platform technology development.

Principal Duties:

Demonstrate sound understanding of the science and technology utilized by Ornua Ingredients North America.

  1. Actively experiment with new approaches and methods and documents the research process
  2. Play a lead role in development of new products and product re-formulations, effectively translating them from pilot plant to production floor.
  3. Develop new product formulas and re-formulations in conjunction with Quality Assurance to provide imbedded safety and quality attributes.
  4. Ensure sales samples are developed with required functionality according to supplied information and within OINA turn-around time parameters and to requested timetables when appropriate.  Ensure all product testing meets analytical, application and functional performance per customer requirements
  5. Collaborate with QA and Production Manager to ‘trouble shoot’ formulation issues on the production floor
  6. Continually investigate new ingredients, technologies and equipment for producing, safe, high quality food products more cost efficiently
  7. Proactively research market trends and develop new applications/concepts for use of Ornua cheese
  8. Maintain lab records on formulas, ingredients and standard operating procedures for department and new product developments, including logging of all incoming materials to be used in production of sample products

  1. Maintain peer-to-peer contact with our suppliers’ R&D Departments.
  2. Conduct on-going sensory/organoleptic analyses of Ornua products as required
  3. Conduct challenge studies and shelf life studies where appropriate on new products
  4. Work closely with customers at OINA or their facility to develop products appropriate for their application with consideration for their manufacturing lines
  5. Organize and execute customer presentations and trade shows.  Be on site as needed to explain usage and show examples of product, applications, and capabilities
  6. Work with the R&D team to maintain a clean and orderly lab at all times.

 

Other Duties:

  1. Demonstrate adherence to the site’s Safety and GMP practices

  2. Attend monthly facility Safety training

  3. Assist with appropriate Risk Assessments upon request

  4. Assist with appropriate Accident/Incident Investigations and Right-to-Refuse Investigation

  5. Taste testing dairy products

 

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree minimum in Dairy and/or Food Science or equivalent
  2. Ideally at least 5 years of experience in dairy technology and/or food ingredients
  3. Knowledge of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points applications to a food plant a plus
  4. Knowledge of State and Federal regulations on Cheese Manufacture and Production a plus
  5. Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational and written skills
  6. Lean Six Sigma experience/certification a plus
  7. Must have valid driver’s license with flexibility to travel and visit customers up to 20% of the time
  8. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed
