Job Summary:

The Logistics Manager is responsible to select and certify transportation carriers and outside storage providers that will provide the most cost-effective value to the OINA facilities. Develop long term partnerships with freight carriers of various transportation modes and outside storage providers to ensure the organizations needs are met.  Analyze the transportation needs of the incoming materials from our suppliers and out bound shipments to our customers, develop criteria for the sourcing and selection of carriers, and negotiate the most favorable cost and service plans.

       

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the sourcing, selecting, negotiation, and purchase of transportation for the company.  Coordinate all transportation providers to ensure prompt and proper movement of all shipments, both inbound and outbound.                                                                                                                
  • Negotiate freight terms with carriers and develop strong relationships that support the long term needs of the organization. 
  • Identify transportation issues and resolve on a timely basis.
  • Responsible for the coordination of inter plant transfers of materials and finished goods.
  • Ensure that all plants utilize a standardized group of freight carriers for both inbound and outbound transportation needs.
  • Support customer service/inside sales as needed with respect to transportation and logistics.
  • Evaluate freight carrier proposals and recommend appropriate changes as necessary.
  • Place PO’s and coordinate the delivery/transfers of the large powder ingredients (starch, casein, MPC-70, caseinate, etc. etc.).
  • Ensure the inventory accuracy of all outside warehousing for OINA facilities.
  • Assess outside storage capacity needs and storage providers to determine alignment with business needs
  • Review outside storage providers proposals and rates and select and negotiate most favorable terms
  • Continually evaluate other freight carriers to ensure the OINA facilities have favorable freight rates.
  • Continually evaluate outside storage providers performance and cost against competition to ensure competitive
  • Meet with production scheduling on a weekly basis and review the following week’s schedule upon completion for OINA facilities.
  • Attend the weekly Sales & Op meetings and serve as an advisor with respect to material availability issues or other supply chain risks and/or challenges.
  • Following review of the weekly and daily production schedules in the plants, coordinate the necessary supporting transfer of materials from outside warehouses, suppliers, sub-contractors, or inter-plant transfers from Ornua plant warehouses.
  • Comply with all safety guidelines and regulatory standards, setting an example in maintaining high ethical standards and practices
  • Comply with all company purchasing policies and procedures
  • Comply with all laws and regulations for procured product and services of the company
  • Demonstrate exceptional adaptability, managing diverse tasks and responding proactively to evolving business needs
  • Recommend new processes or systems for improvement, implementation of new ideas and strategies.
  • Complete other assignments and special projects as requested

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in Supply Chain Management or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 years related business analytics/project management experience, preferably in the food industry.
  • New product development/pipeline management required.
