Job Summary:
Responsible for the overall implementation, verification, and validation of the Food Safety and Quality programs for any OINA. The Ornua Ingredients North America (OINA) FSQA Supervisor will manage and maintain the certification of an individual or multiple facilities under BRC verification of the FSMA regulations, ensuring all OINA products are compliant with all Safety and Quality standards, including the Preventive Controls program, HACCP program, PRP’s, and all customer requirements, both foreign and domestic. By working cooperatively and cross-functionally with Managers, Supervisors, Line Leads, and the Quality & Food Safety Team, this position will identify, investigate, and solve Quality and compliance issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead GFSI initiatives and/or serve as back up the FSQA Manager for all things Food Safety & Quality
- Participate and at times lead the audits with companies, agencies and auditors for the site team
- Execute and lead RCA-CAPAs in accordance with corporate and site policies
- Investigate consumer complaints and monitor corrective action effectiveness
- Coach-Teach-Mentor FSQA leads and technicians to help build contingency plan bench strength
- Maintain staffing schedules and provide feedback for FSQA Staff performance reviews
- Aid in management of commercialization projects from a quality perspective to assure specifications are met
- Aid in monitoring Sanitation activities including, but not limited to verification of MSS, PEM and non-PEM swabbing, and Pre-Operational inspection
- Coordinate QA and Production training related to FSQA requirements and initiatives
- Provides QA technical support to all site departments including production, maintenance, facilities as required to achieve business goals.
- Is the subject matter expert (SME) on quality lab testing equipment.
- Develops and implements validations, testing, inspection procedures and statistical analysis to incoming materials, in process, and finished products to ensure product compliance with GMPs, food safety, and company specifications. Researches product defects recommending modifications in products or standards and prepares necessary reports and action plans.
- Maintains effective communications and appropriate working relationships with internal and external customers such as Supply Chain Planning, Purchasing, Development, R&D and others as applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities:
- General knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), Sanitation, and Production
- Must be willing and able to taste dairy and non-dairy food products.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and ability to travel 20-40% of the time.
- Strong oral, listening, written and electronic communication skills in order to communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations, and to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral or diagram form.
- Effectively multi-task with delegation in order to effectively manage challenges involving several variables in standardized situations.
- Critically analyze processes and procedures to identify and assess potential food safety hazards and quality defects.
- Excellent people skills with ability to work with individuals from different disciplines
- Must be able to effectively train individuals and monitor compliance.
- Ability to work on different shifts as assigned based on business needs
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Veterinary, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years experience in a food manufacturing environment or experience in a technical support area such as Food Safety & Quality, and Product Development Prefer, 5 years minimum experience in FSQA in the food or related industry.
- Experience with FDA, USDA and Dairy
- Preferred Qualifications include: PCQI registration, HACCP certification
