Ornua is an Irish dairy co-operative that markets and sells dairy products on behalf of its Members, Ireland’s dairy processors and, in turn, Irish dairy farmers. Ornua is Ireland’s largest exporter of Irish dairy products and has annualised sales of €3.4 billion. The Group is structured across two divisions: Ornua Foods and Ornua Ingredients. Ornua Foods is responsible for the marketing and sales of Ornua’s consumer brands, including Ireland’s most successful food export, Kerrygold, as well as Kerrygold Dubliner, Pilgrims Choice, Forto and BEO milk powders.
Ornua Ingredients is responsible for the procurement of Irish and non-Irish dairy products, for the sale of dairy ingredients to food manufacturing and foodservice customers across the world, and for managing volatility through de-risking and trading strategies.

WHY THIS ROLE IS VALUABLE
The Insurance Team in Ornua is responsible for ensuring that the group has appropriate insurance cover in place for its global operational and manufacturing activities. Ornua’s insurance is placed with leading market insurers along with a captive insurance company that is regulated by the CBI. The Global Insurance Manager also holds the position of Head of Claims for the captive insurance company.
The Insurance Team develop and drive the group wide insurance programme to protect the business against risk. They also manage all insurance claims arising, ensuring that claims are investigated and managed in a cost-effective manner in accordance with policy terms and conditions.
The Senior Insurance & Claims Manager, reporting into the Head of Risk Management and Insurance will be responsible for the day to day management of the Insurance Team, Ornua’s group insurance portfolio and 3rd party service providers including the broker and the captive management company.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Ensuring that the right insurance policies and cover are in place to meet Ornua’s specific and evolving needs in each of our markets, across a range of areas including Property/Bi, Marine Stock throughput , Public Product & Employers Liability, Recall/CPI, Trade Credit, Financial Lines, Cyber, and Personal Accident/Employee Benefit programmes
- Manage the annual renewal process
- Manage all claims arising in connection with all insurance lines, working with Ornua’s in-house Legal Team and all internal and external stakeholders
- Liaise and oversee property and/or MST insurer surveys and inspections
- Monitor the implementation of all risk improvements recommendations that arise from insurer surveys
- Build strong relationships with brokers, insurers and captive managers.
- Manage 3rd party service providers to ensure services are delivered in line with agreed SLA’s
- Reporting into the Ornua captive insurance company and assume the role of Head of Claims
- Identifying opportunities to streamline and improve ways of working
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
- Member of the Insurance Institute of Ireland and hold a minimum MDI qualification or equivalent
- 10+yrs experience of general insurances (managing Premium spends >€500m)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with diverse group of stakeholders
- Demonstrates strong planning, coordination and numeracy skills
- Clear problem-solving skills
- Experience of delivering to tight reporting timeframes
- Strong Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills
- A high level of attention to detail
- Excellent negotiation skills
- Meet min requirements of PCF43 role
