Job Summary:

Ornua requires a Procurement Specialist to support the implementation of a sourcing strategy for the assigned category (Indirect materials and services) in line with overall business objectives.


You will be responsible for tactical procurement activities within the Indirect category, analyzing and presenting data and supporting the category manager on other projects as they arise. You will work closely and manage relationships with cross functional stakeholders in the business.


Integral to the role is developing practices which deliver a low-cost supply base to continue offering a competitive product in a highly competitive market.

Supplier relationship management and working to strengthen the supply base in readiness for growth is also a critical part of the role.


The candidate will be an experienced procurement professional and be able to contribute towards our Procurement transformation, will have a proven track record of success in supporting the management of a significant spend portfolio within an EMEA / Global procurement organization, and will be able to implement best practices in areas such as, cost management, supplier relationship management, data analysis and presentation and category strategy implementation.

Key Accountabilities:


  • Responsible for supporting the Procurement Category Manager in the day-to-day implementation of the category strategy aligned with the overall procurement and business plan.
  • Understand the product portfolio, spend under management, and be competent in analysing and presenting spend data to support decision making.
  • Have a strong understanding of spend category markets and dynamics.
  • Directly responsible and accountable for the implementation and ongoing management of assigned category (Indirect materials and services).
  • Grow spend under procurement management and apply appropriate sourcing strategies.
  • Manage risk by analysing current /future market conditions and defining contingency plans to ensure critical supply needs are met.
  • Responsible for the management of the contracting process & frameworks consistent with legal, regulatory, and business requirements.
  • Function as liaison and key contact within the business units to ensure that commercial relationships between the suppliers and business requirements are aligned.
  • Delivering cost improvement through the execution of sourcing plans and managing RFI/P & Auctions.
  • Pro-actively managing contractual expiry and compliance tied to the category strategy.
  • Actively manage the Indirect materials and services category spend under contract via appropriate sourcing techniques. 
  • Managing transactional approvals and process/policy compliance. 
  • Serve as an escalation point to internal business stakeholders for supplier relationship concerns.
  • Driving consensus across the procurement and regional stakeholder/supply base.
  • Provide commercial leadership and market insight of procurement trends and new developments in the market-space for assigned categories and providing these global/regional insights in the development of future category strategies.
  • Understanding key cost drivers and monitoring global/regional risk and opportunity.
  • Participating in procurement initiatives and striving to continually improve
    procurement processes and procedures, leverage the use of e-procurement tools.
  • Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) responsibility for key suppliers.
  • Uploading and maintenance of procurement data / contacts in ERP and Ornua Source procurement system.
  • Able to travel on occasion both domestic and International.

  • Proven procurement skills ideally with a working knowledge of indirect materials and services and a willingness to take on new spend categories.

  • Strong data analysis, interpretation, and presentation skills. With a strong working proficiency in the MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint.)
  • Proven negotiation and conflict management skills with the ability to resolve issues at all levels of management.
  • Ability to define action plans to resolve programme/project issues and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Previous experience leveraging e-procurement tools, planning and leading tenders from pretender stage, through to completion, employing RFI and RFP’s, e-Auctions etc.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, procurement, supply chain or equivalent.
  • 3 years of procurement experience as a Procurement Specialist or similar.
  • Dairy Industry experience and FMCG industry knowledge ideal.
  • CIPS or APICS or other Certification advantageous.
