Ornua is a leading dairy co-operative which sells premium dairy products globally on behalf of its Member Co-operatives, Ireland’s dairy processors and, in turn, Irish dairy farmers. 

 

Ornua has revenues of €3.4 billion and is supported by a global team of approximately 2,800 employees. The Group operates as a commercial organisation across 10 business units, including 12 production facilities located in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Africa. 

 

The commercial organisation is responsible for the marketing and sales of Ornua’s consumer brands including Ireland’s most successful food export: Kerrygold. Consumer markets are served by production facilities in Ireland, Germany and the UK and by in-market Sales & Marketing Teams in Asia, Germany, Ireland, MEA, Poland, Spain, rest of Europe and North and Latin America. 

 

It also manages the procurement of Irish and non-Irish dairy products, the sale of dairy ingredients to food manufacturing and foodservice customers globally, and the implementation of de-risking and trading strategies to manage market volatility. These activities are supported by production facilities and in-market teams in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Africa. 

 

 

The Role

 

The Procurement & Planning Section is responsible for the demand planning, supply planning and procurement of all dairy products for onward sale by the Ornua Commercial Division and Ornua Dairy Ingredients serviced from Ornua headquarters.   

 

The Procurement & Planning section’s goal is to support our businesses to meet customers’ needs through developing strong, sustainable knowledge-based relationships with internal and external stakeholders. We aim to maximise value through efficient forecasting, planning, purchasing, and business processes.

 

A key role within the procurement and planning team is the operations planning of both ingredient and retail cheese for onward sale into both ingredient and retail sales channels.

 

Key Areas of Responsibility

 

Planning and Procurement:

  • Form a key member of the cheese planning and procurement team developing key relationships with our bulk cheese suppliers coordinating monthly production plans in line with Ornua’s overall forecasting process.
  • A key link between Ornua’s sales teams and our member suppliers; provide regular market, customer & commercial insights and updates as appropriate. Schedule and attend regular member meetings and attend customer meetings as necessary with sales teams.
  • Working closely with the grading team and third-party retail cheese packers ensure scheduling of stock transfer and packing is aligned to our branded forecasted demand.
  • Review supplier performance and initiate projects aimed at providing overall improved product performance while also identifying and implementing cost saving initiatives.
  • Provide the support associated with the purchase and management of products and services including the raising, communicating and maintaining of relevant purchase orders, stock reclassifications, maintaining relevant management information records and preparing analysis and reports as required.
  • Working closely with Ornua’s Demand Planning, Customer Service and Sales teams analysing and sense-checking the demand forecasts.
  • Manage NCs relating to your area in line with Ornua’s NC process.
  • Be a strong contributor to the wider Procurement team. Collaborate with colleagues across all product categories to ensure all information is processed timely and forecasts (both supply and demand) remain accurate.
  • Live the Ornua values while collaborating with cross functional teams across the business.

 

Stock Management: 

 

  • Manage Ornua’s retail cheese and ingredient stocks appropriately ensuring our customer demands are always met while avoiding any generation of offline product.
  • Selection of stock as required while ensuring stock reservations are put in place where required.
  • Become a key stakeholder in our product review forums taking full ownership and responsibility for your area.

 

Sales Support

  • On-going support for the Key Account Managers by managing commercial administration including sales reporting and ad hoc requests
  • Act as account owner for a number of designated customers
  • In conjunction with Key Account Managers deliver forecasts by product by customer to build a total periodic sales plan
  • Owning specific elements of tracking and reporting on performance metrics
  • Help create and input into presentations in customer meetings.
  • Work cross functionally with the supply chain, finance and innovation teams  to deliver business KPIs.
  • Work closely with your Key Account Manager and support the execution of our annual sales plan.

 

 

Key Skills / Attributes

  • 2 – 3 years’ experience in a similar role administrative role.
  • Strong analytical capability. Experience in advanced excel and finance related activities is desirable.
  • Strong administration, attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Appetite to work in a fast-paced environment, which evolves rapidly in line with fluctuating commodity markets and seasonality of milk supply.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A strong role model of Ornua values and behaviours, Ability to build and maintain relationships, while being a strong negotiator.
