Ornua is a leading dairy co-operative which sells premium dairy products globally on behalf of its Member Co-operatives, Ireland’s dairy processors and, in turn, Irish dairy farmers. 

 

Ornua has revenues of €3.4 billion and is supported by a global team of approximately 2,800 employees. The Group operates as a commercial organisation across 10 business units, including 12 production facilities located in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Africa. 

 

The commercial organisation is responsible for the marketing and sales of Ornua’s consumer brands including Ireland’s most successful food export: Kerrygold. Consumer markets are served by production facilities in Ireland, Germany and the UK and by in-market Sales & Marketing Teams in Asia, Germany, Ireland, MEA, Poland, Spain, rest of Europe and North and Latin America. 

 

It also manages the procurement of Irish and non-Irish dairy products, the sale of dairy ingredients to food manufacturing and foodservice customers globally, and the implementation of de-risking and trading strategies to manage market volatility. These activities are supported by production facilities and in-market teams in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Africa. 

 

 

The Role

 

We are seeking an experienced commodity risk manager to join our team in Dublin. This role will report to the Head of Trading, Ornua Dairy Ingredients. This role will execute and develop risk management strategies that manage Ornua’s dairy commodity price exposure and support disciplined commercial risk management.

 

Key Areas of Responsibility

 

  • Front facing point of contact for risk management execution for Ornua business units.  
  • Actively engage with commercial teams to identify risks and solutions to develop hedging strategies to maximize earnings.
  • Ensure compliance with Ornua Risk Management policy and any other internal guidelines. 
  • Monitor and control risk positions by researching supply and demand forecasts and market movements.
  • Updating CTRM system to ensure timely and accurate reporting of derivative positions. Act as superuser for the CTRM platform.
  • Produce clear and concise reports for business SLT’s and update relevant committees.
  • Work with the finance departments in determining daily/weekly/monthly position analysis.
  • In collaboration with Head of Trading, create a culture of risk management awareness across the business. 
  • Provide training and support to internal stakeholders and management on markets and risk management strategies.

 

Key Skills / Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance or related discipline.
  • Strong experience in portfolio and risk management.
  • Sound knowledge and demonstrated experience running risk management strategies.
  • Commodity background with a key understanding of both physical and financial dairy markets.
  • Proven strategic thinking, decision making and problem-solving skills. Tenacity to get to the bottom of issues, to identify solutions in a timely manner.
  • Effective in articulating various perspectives and impacts of issues, to influence outcome or change.
  • Record of leadership and authenticity to generate a high level of respect and trust within the organisation.
  • A knowledge of the global agri-food sector an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel internationally.
