Ornua is a leading dairy co-operative which sells premium dairy products globally on behalf of its Member Co-operatives, Ireland’s dairy processors and, in turn, Irish dairy farmers.
Ornua has revenues of €3.4 billion and is supported by a global team of approximately 2,800 employees. The Group operates as a commercial organisation across 10 business units, including 12 production facilities located in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Africa.
The commercial organisation is responsible for the marketing and sales of Ornua’s consumer brands including Ireland’s most successful food export: Kerrygold. Consumer markets are served by production facilities in Ireland, Germany and the UK and by in-market Sales & Marketing Teams in Asia, Germany, Ireland, MEA, Poland, Spain, rest of Europe and North and Latin America.
It also manages the procurement of Irish and non-Irish dairy products, the sale of dairy ingredients to food manufacturing and foodservice customers globally, and the implementation of de-risking and trading strategies to manage market volatility. These activities are supported by production facilities and in-market teams in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Africa.
WHY THIS ROLE IS VALUABLE:
Responsible for leading a team of Data Scientists to deliver innovative data solutions that drive business value. This role partners with business stakeholders to deliver analytics solutions overseeing the end-to-end data science lifecycle, drives discovery of high-value use cases, and unlocks breakthrough insights through novel approaches leveraging AI and advanced analytics.
The role reports to the Head of Data & Analytics and works closely with peer leaders including the Data Engineering & Platforms Manager and Master Data Manager, as well as the broader ICT leadership team.
Proven experience leading teams that enable a data-driven approach at global scale within the CPG sector and dairy industry. Deep understanding of end-to-end business processes including sourcing, pricing, consumer and brand insights, supply chain, manufacturing, finance, ESG, quality, and HR analytics. Strong track record of leveraging data and advanced analytics to improve decision-making, optimise performance, and drive enterprise-wide value.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and develop a team of Data Scientists, driving high performance and continuous upskilling.
- Data Science Delivery: Oversee design, build, deployment, and scaling of data science solutions aligned to business value.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Translate business challenges into actionable analytics and AI-driven solutions.
- Advanced Analytics & AI: Guide delivery of predictive and prescriptive analytics, leveraging machine learning and AI techniques.
- Data Science Lifecycle & MLOps: Establish and govern best practices across the data science lifecycle (problem framing, data discovery, modelling, deployment, monitoring) including MLOps for model operationalisation and performance tracking.
- Data Discovery & Insight Generation: Drive exploratory analysis to uncover hidden patterns and unlock breakthrough insights using innovative and non-traditional approaches.
- Data Visualization & Storytelling: Ensure clear, impactful communication of insights through dashboards and data storytelling.
- Data Quality & Governance: Contribute to data quality, governance, and compliance standards.
- Technology & Architecture: Contribute to scalable data science and AI architecture and tooling roadmap.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with data engineering, master data, and ICT teams to deliver integrated, production-ready solutions.
- Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Promote experimentation, reuse of assets, and adoption of emerging technologies.
- Data Culture & Advocacy: Champion data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience: Minimum 3 years’ leadership experience
- Qualification: Degree or master's in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
- Technical Expertise: Strong grounding in data science (Python/R, SQL, ML techniques, Power BI/Tableau, Fabric, Databricks).
- Data Science Practices: Experience with end-to-end data science lifecycle frameworks, MLOps, model deployment, and monitoring.
- AI & Innovation: Experience applying AI/ML to solve complex business problems and uncover new opportunities.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing data science teams.
- Stakeholder Management: Strong communication and influencing skills with senior stakeholders.
- Business Acumen: Ability to translate analytics into measurable business value.
- Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving and structured delivery mindset.
